“Hello, can you bring some of those red chile nachos over to Quincy and me at the studio? I’m busy working on an album.”
When Michael Jackson made that call, I was the kitchen and catering manager at the Golden Temple, a vegetarian restaurant in the Fairfax District near Los Angeles’ CBS Studios. As devout followers of Yogi Bhajan (pronounced bud-gen), the restaurant staff wore knee length white robes, moved at a meditative snail’s pace and had odd, hard to pronounce names. None of that mattered to Michael — we knew how to cook!
My life as a part of Yogi Bhajan’s kundalini cult was falling apart yet Michael offered me a lifeline, hiring me as his first private chef just in time for the Victory Tour.
I’ve captured the time our paths ovelapped in a narrative, non-fiction manuscript titled Midnight Snack - Nachos, Michael Jackson and My Cult Escape.
